Q: What’s the different between SmartND and OutSmart EMR?
A: SmartND is the name of our company, and also the name of the EMR that started this whole amazing project. Being founded by a Naturopathic Doctor, the SmartND EMR was initially developed and created to principally cater to the needs of Naturopathic Doctors. As the software grew over time, we began to accommodate more and more professions, and this is how OutSmart EMR was born. OutSmart is build on the solid foundation created by SmartND, and takes our EMR to a whole new level. It will begin to provide clinic management and EMR solutions for a wide variety of health care professions.

Q: Is SmartND / OutSmart the least expensive EMR out there?
A: No, but we are affordable, and we are definitely worth every penny.  SmartND is the culmination of over 3 years of planning and programming to create a solid foundation and build the best EMR and clinic management tool available.  We have unique features that are constantly evolving and being developed based on feedback from the community of health care practitioners who use our software.  Ask around, you probably know one of them.  And they’ll tell you what we are all about.  We take pride in what we have developed here, and we support it with, frankly, the best service the industry has ever seen.  Ask anyone.  Are we worth it?  You bet.

Q: Why should I choose OutSmart EMR over other EMRs?
A: Other than the reasons described above, SmartND’s goal is to develop the best and most intelligently developed EMR on the market.  That’s it.  Ar we there yet? Frankly, we are always improving, and always developing. We talk to our client, we know what they want, and we work hard to deliver.  We also store all medical information in the same country it originated from.  This means that ALL Canadian medical data is stored on Canadian soil, and all US medical data is stored on US soil.  We have a dedicated team of programmers and designers who have a wealth of experience, and we have a Naturopathic Doctor and an Architect at the helm.  We’re good at what we do, We’re passionate about this industry, and you’ll feel it the minute you start talking with us.

Q: Is OutSmart tailored to my specific profession?
A: That depends on your profession, but we are actively in the process of building templates for every health care profession that approaches us. So if you’re not sure, give us a call! We have a team of templating experts who can help customize your charting experience. We’re lucky that way. A small team of dedicated and enthusiastic developers can often make things happen a lot faster than larger more bloated corporate EMRs.

Q: Is there a contract? are we locked in to using the software?
A: Nope, we like freedom.  There are no billing contracts.  OutSmart EMR is a monthly service, and you can cancel at any time.  Exports of data are provided in CSV format.

Q: Do you have a free trial?
A: We do not have a free trial at this time, however we do offer a 30 day guarantee. If you are not happy with the service within the first month of use, you can contact us to cancel and get a full refund. If you are cancelling because you feel like the software does not have the features you need, let us know. We might be able to offer some training to solve the issue, or plan an update to the software to incorporate your suggestions. Our software is built on our client’s feedback – that’s what makes OutSmart so unique.

Q: Can you import my data from my previous EMR?
A: Yes, absolutely.  So long as the data you give us is in a digital and structured format, we can import it.  This means we love Excel files, CSV files, and database files.

Q: Can I upload attachments like bloodwork or labs to my patient charts?
A: Yes, OutSmart comes with 5GB of free storage space per account. If you need more, let us know. We have very competitive prices for additional storage.

Q: Is OutSmart Secure?
A: We take the security of our data very seriously.  We use secure SSL connections for all data transfers, and our servers are located in secure physical locations under constant monitoring in Canada and the US.

Q: Do I need an internet connection to access OutSmart?
A: Yes you do.  OutSmart is a cloud-based EMR, which means that you need an internet connection to use the service.  If this causes you concern, think about this:  Almost every street corner in most major cities in Canada have wifi access. Every single new smartphone sold can be used as a wifi hot-spot to provide your computer a net connection.  Cloud-based services are the new way to conduct your digital life, and we aim to make it as easy as possible to make that transition.  OutSmart has been designed to be fast and efficient at data storage and retrieval.  Our entire system can run from your cellphone’s internet connection if needed.

Q: What makes OutSmart so smart?
A: OutSmart was designed to help make your practice easier to manage and to give you more time to focus on the important things, like your patients or your own life.  The more you use OutSmart, the more it will ‘learn’ your charting habits through the use of Smart Lists, on-the-fly templating, magnetic scheduling, and patient management.  OutSmart will also give you access to important stats that can help you to grow your practice, or see trends in your patient’s progress or health issues.  Most of all, behind every feature we develop is first a question: “How can we make this smarter?“. Q: Can I share my patient charts with other practitioners?
A: Yes, most definitely, but it doesn’t stop there.  You can share templates, files, handouts, diagrams, stats, everything in OutSmart is built to be shareable.
